Hole Games: How to Play and Win as the Biggest Hole
Published · 4 min read
In a hole game, you are not a hero or a car. You are a hole in the ground. Anything smaller than you falls in, and every object you swallow makes you bigger. Start by gulping down people and road cones, and a minute later you are swallowing whole buildings.
This guide explains how hole games work and shares tips to finish as the biggest hole.
How hole games work
- You move a hole around a city. You steer it with a joystick, the mouse or the keys.
- Smaller things fall in. Anything that fits through your opening drops in and adds to your score.
- You grow as you score. The bigger your score, the wider your hole, so you can swallow bigger objects.
- Other holes are rivals. A clearly bigger hole can swallow a smaller one.
- The round has a timer. When time runs out, the biggest hole wins.
Tips to win a hole game
- Start small. In the first seconds, eat people, cones and other small props. They are everywhere and grow you fast.
- Move in loops, not lines. Sweep through streets in curves so you pick up objects without stopping.
- Watch the size hint. If the game tells you how many points you need to grow, use it to decide what to chase next.
- Go for big objects when you can. Cars and buildings are worth far more than small props, but only once you are big enough.
- Stay away from bigger holes. Early in the round, keep your distance from anyone larger than you.
- Hunt smaller holes late. Once you are clearly bigger, swallowing a rival is a big swing in score.
- Plan the last 20 seconds. Head for a dense area with lots of objects so you finish on a high.
Common mistakes in hole games
- Chasing one big object too early. If a building does not fit yet, circling it wastes time. Grow on small things first and come back.
- Standing still. A hole that stops moving stops growing. Even when you are aiming at something, keep collecting on the way.
- Ignoring the clock. Many players are still eating cones in the last ten seconds. Use the end of the round for the biggest points you can reach.
- Getting cornered. Narrow streets and edges limit your escape routes when a bigger hole comes close. Keep open space around you.
- Forgetting other holes are learning too. Rivals grow at the same time as you. The hole that was smaller a minute ago may be bigger now, so check sizes before you get close.
Solo, online or with a friend?
Hole games are fun in every mode, but each one plays a little differently. Solo against AI rivals is the best place to learn the city and practise your routes. Online rounds add real players, who are less predictable and often hunt other holes earlier. A local duel on one keyboard is the most chaotic, because you can see your friend coming. Try each one to find your favourite.

Gobble City: swallow the whole city
Gobble City is a free 3D hole game. You swallow people, cars and skyscrapers, gobble smaller holes, and try to be the biggest hole when the two-minute timer ends. A hole at least 15% bigger can swallow a smaller one, and objects range from people and cones worth 1 point to skyscrapers worth 240.
You can play solo against seven AI rivals, play online with up to eight players or a friends room, duel a friend on one keyboard in City Duel, or try the Daily city with one scored run. Read how to play Gobble City for the controls.
