How to play Chaukdi
Chaukdi is a free daily word puzzle with an Indian twist. You get sixteen words and sort them into four hidden groups of four.
Goal
Find all four groups of four words that share a connection. You can make four mistakes; the fourth wrong guess ends the puzzle. Each group has a difficulty colour: Easy (yellow), Medium (green), Hard (blue) and Tricky (purple).
Controls
- Touch or mouse: Tap or click a word to select it, up to four, then press Submit. Shuffle mixes the words and Clear removes your selection.
- Keyboard: Arrow keys, Home and End move between words. Enter or Space selects a word. Escape closes dialogs.
Game modes
- Daily puzzle: One puzzle a day, the same for every player, new at midnight IST.
- Bonus puzzles: Replay earlier days. They do not count toward your stats.
Tips
- Look out for clever overlaps: some words seem to fit more than one group.
- If you see "One away!", three of your four words belong together.
- Repeating a guess you already tried does not cost a mistake.
- Once you find three groups, the last one solves itself.

Every day at midnight IST (India Standard Time). Everyone gets the same puzzle.
How many mistakes can I make?
Four. The fourth wrong guess ends the puzzle. The lamps under the board show how many you have left.
Is there a hint button?
No. Use Shuffle to see the words in a new order, which often reveals a connection.
Can I play earlier puzzles?
Yes. Bonus puzzles replay past days and do not change your stats.
